Balkan Gypsy Dance is influenced by Eastern European dances and belly dancing,
it is considered as a form of belly dancing. In the women's dance the
footwork is combined with some hip movements, shoulder shakings and
trembling hand. Also, there are pivots, small jumps and snapping fingers.
This workshop will be a introduction which includes learning basic
steps, hip and
shoulder movement and techniques. We shall be dancing to the popular
Romanian
Gypsy song.
What to wear in the workshop:
You can wear comfortable top, leggings. It is recommended to bring any scarf to tie around your hips and wear any circle/double circle skirt. You can dance barefoot, or dance in soft ballet/jazz shoes.

Russian Gypsy Dance or sometimes called Gypsy
Skirt Dance is one of the most vibrant and expressive types of Gypsy
dance in Europe. Wide skirt swings, intricate footwork, arm movements,
aberdevine, shoulder shimmies and floor work.
We will learn basic steps, skirt technique, arm and shoulders
movements used by Gypsy dancers in Russia, including basic introduction to
Russian Gypsy music and culture.
What to wear in the workshop:
A comfortable top, leggings or trousers. You can dance barefoot, or wear
soft ballet/jazz
shoes. It is recommended to bring a full or double-circle skirt. If you do not own such a skirt, we can lend you one for £5. Please get in touch beforehand!
